Mr Hugh Hart Lusk, who was very well-known in Auckland in logons years, died to-day at the advanced age of S 9 years. He was tae youngest brother of the late A rjur Lusk and came to New Zealand m 1850. Air Lusk was a barrister and solicitor, and in the early days went in for a political career. He was a polished speaker. Mr Lusk was eery strong in his advocacy of tree education for children. He was mem aw of the Provincial Government and ruined what bid fair to be a fine political career by introducing proposals for a poll tax for educational purposes. This attempt at direct taxation roused the people, with _ the result that Air Lusk’s public li.e ended for some time.
