MISS OLSEN LOSES AN EYE. SIGHT OF OTHER MAY BE DESTROYED. AUCKLAND, Jan. 27. A violent head-on collision occurred on the Otorohanga. road, near Otorohanga, yesterday afternoon, between a service car bound for Hamilton and a private sedan driven by U. M. Moore-Jones, of Remuera, Auckland. , . . , , Both drivers escaped injury, but Mrs M. Bedford and Jessie Ward, 11, of New Plymouth, passengers in the service car, were badly cut by broken glass. Mrs Moore-Jones was severely cut about the face .and Mrs M. A. - Cullen, of Auckland, a passenger in Mr Moore-Jones’ car, is suffering from shock. WANGANUI, Jan. 27. Two children, Cecily Lay, 10, and Eli."zbeth Alice McLean, 12, ywere drowned in tragic cireumstancin the Wanganui river to-day. The victims were bathing with a party of children when the elder girl got into difficulties. The younger girl rushed in to help her out. Both got into a strong current and were drowned. The accident occurred at a lonely spot opposite the Imlay freezing works,- and no one was about nor for 'twenty minutes was help available. The girl McLean’s body was found in eio-htT feet of water within half-an-hour, while the other girl’s body was recovered three hours in four feet, of water.
