Tommy Dodd was favorite. After being fairly well placed, he was unable to come through at the distance. Phoenix Park acted as pilot to the straight, followed by Pelham, Tommy Dodd and Kilbronsytli. When the field turned for home, Good Sport and The Thorn also showed up, but, at the distance, Grand Knight put in a great sprint on the outside and won by threequarters of a length from Pelham, who was a long neck clear of Phoenix Park. The sprinter Sun Up is at present in physic, and is being given a let-up. The recently-erected look-out tower at the head of the straight on the Takapuna racecourse was available for the Thames meeting, which was held on the Shore course. An uninterrupted view of happenings is obtained from the time the contesting horses make the far turn leading to the top stretch, and it promises to play a strong part in checking unfair tactics. The All Red mare Equalise, who so far has bcem a great disappointment, is now showing improved form on the Bulls tracks under the guidance of T. Coleman

DOMINION TOURNEY CONCLUDED. DUNEDIN, Jan. 24

The Dominion howling tournament concluded on Saturday in fine weather, the whole programme being got off to schedule time. Seldom if ever has this occurred in the case of Dominion tournaments. Tho weather was exceptionally fine throughout, about one hour constituting tne total time lost through rain. The final of the pairs was played between Todd and Hamblyn (St Kilda) who beat Mclntyre and Pilkingtcrti (Hamilton) by 19 to 16 after a well played and hard fought game, in which the winners’ accurate drawing was the deciding factor. Dunedin Centre players thus win the treble —rinks, pairs and singles.—P.A.
