EMPIRE POLICY
■■ ' ' " -• HOW IT IS BENG SHAPED. BRITAIN IN DALLY TOUCH WITH DOMINIONS. (United Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Received Jan. 24, 5 5 p.m.) London; jan. 24. The post-war development of the dominions’ influence in the shaping of Empire policy was traced by Colonel Amery in a speech at Edinburgh. He said that all available information was now being supplied daily to the dominions from the Eoreign Office. Last year two hundred telegrams and six hundred reports had been sent out and', as regards the Locarno Treaty alone, seventy telegrams and 150’ memoranda were despatched. Referring to the difficulties in the way of convoking Imperial Conferences, Colonel Amery suggested that they might follow the League of Nations’ example and fix definite intervals. The less important business might be done at meetings of deputies, but the ultimate aim should be to secure a permanent Empire policy, without which the unity of Empire would be endangered.—A.N.Z.U.A. DOES CANADA INTEND DISINTEGRATION? (Received Jan. 24, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 22. World peace and the homogeneity of the British Empire were the themes of speakers, at the Canadian Society dinner to-niglit. British Ambassador Howard declared that there was little chance of a realization of th«> “prophecies of the croakers” about the early dissolution of the component parts of the Empire. Mr. Howard said the appointment of a Canadian Minister in Washington would he a step further in the direction of Canada settling her own affairs and lie did not think it would in any way dissintergate the British Commonwealth of nations.—A. ana N.Z.C.A.
