PICNIC FUN LEADS TO FATALITY. GIRL DISLOCATES HER NECK NELSON, Jan. 2. Lucy Olsen (25), a single woman, met her death in tragic circumstances at Thorpe yesterday. She had accompanied a picnic party from town While at a farm-house she got into a trap standing in a shed, and two of the party, in a spirit of fun, got hold of the shafts and pulled the vehicle out, -when the deceased struck her head against a beam in the doorway, and dislocated her neck, dying in a few minutes. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned.

THROWN FROM PICNIC LORRY

WELLINGTON, Jan. 1

Betty Valvert, 10, had her leg broken, and Victor Kelly, 16, injured on the head when a seat collapsed on a lorry carrying a picnic party returning from "Petone last evening. The lorry swerved, displacing the seat, and the two children were thrown on to the road. They are now in hospital.
