This will he a red letter day in the history of cycling for Gisborne. Never before lias such an important event taken place here. Never before have such champion wheelmen visited this town. Among the competitors will he G. Watson, the present North Island road champion, who established' a New Zealand record last Saturday ive the Mt. Egmor/t road race, riding 105 miles in 4hrs-54mm, thus lowering the previous record by about 11 minutes. This rider also won the Timam-Christchurch race m 1923 and also established second fastest time, and then he competed in the big 165 mile race in Melbourne and ran into a place. He is only just out of his teens aixl is a real champion. Then we have V r . Mackie, who is still in his teeils, and who also broke the record last Saturday,, riding 105 miles’ in 4hrs 59min, gaining second fastest time. He also won the Timaru-Clliristchurch road race in 1922. There are also C. Bright, who dead-heated with A. V’atkin for the last Thnaru-Christchurch race and gained second fastest time; McCann, the New Plymouth boy, only in his teens, who won the Mt. Egmont- race on Saturday; and Yardley, who rode second to Alqpann. There will be four who have won the TimaruOimstehurch road race competing: A. Sutton, winner 1921. W. Mackie (1922), G.
