MANAG EAIENT COMMITTEE.

The weekly meeting of the Poverty Ba.y Rugby Union Management Committee was held last evening; present: Messrs. A. S. Parker (chairman), G. J. Jeune, W. McDonald, J. Campbell, L, J. Plank, J. O’Neil, P. Edmondson, A. E. Billcliff and R. Burge. Mr. W. McFarlane, secretary of the East Coast Union, also attended the meeting. It was reported that the gate takings for the East' CoasLPoverty Bay representative match on Saturday amounted to £73, and the stand receipts totalled £l4. The chairman reported that the East Coast Union had left for Wairoa and . would return Thursday morning. Mr. Neill desired to have a match to be played that afternoon against Waxkohu Sub-Union here. The Waikohu reps, were prepared to come here and play the match against the East Coast if the Poverty Bay Union was prepared to give them some financial assistance. Mr. McFarlane said that' the Coast Union did not know anything of the proposal and 1 he. considered it would be unreasonable to ask. the team to play two matches on succeeding days,—-It was decided to leave the matter, to the chairman to discuss with Mr. Neill, with the idea of suspending the mutch. POVERTY BAY-HAWKE’S BAY

The Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union advised that they would send' the senior team to Gisborno to play Poverty Bay on Thursday, Sept. 24, and further, owing to the junior fixtures extending longer than anticipated, that the Union would be unable to receive a Poverty Bay junior rep. team this season. —The chairman said that lie anticipated trouble over getting H.B. here on Sept. 26 on account of their owing a match to Wairoa, who had been claiming a Saturday, and the Hawke’s Bay Union felt /bounden to give Wairoa that date. No doubt many of the Saturday patrons would be disappointed, but he thought they would get a good gate.’—lt wias decided to accept September 24 as the date of the match against Hawke’s Bay. In view of Poverty Bay’s engagements with Wairoa and Hawke’s Bay. the selectors submitted the following list of players to train: Backs— Woods, Whaitiri, Murland, Bennett, Langlands, Kopua, Piki Smith, Kuril, Tureia, McFarlane ; Forwards —Burdett, Webb, Morrison, Thomas, Woodward, M. Whaitiri, Garlick, Marino, Mortleman, Harrison and Matthews. The players are requested to assemble at the reserve every evening at 5 p.m. for training. It was decided to endeavor to arrange a match between the Waikolm reps, and the Poverty Bay junior reps, as a curtain-raiser to the Poverty Bay-Wairoa match.

NEW SOUTH WALES MATCH ARRANGEMENTS FOR SATURDAY.

Details in connection with the match, between New South Wales and a combined Poverty Bay-East Coast team were discussed at the Rugby Union meeting last evening. The chairman suggested that a barricade of iron standards and fencing wire should be erected on the far side of the ground. On the occasion of the East Coast-Poverty Bay match last Saturday, he said, some one cut a brand new rope in two places. It would be difficult to explain the destruction of the rope to the Gisborne Sheepfarmers. , The erection cf the barricade was left to the chairman to arrange. “PRETTY HOT ”

When it was reported that the Cricket Association was to receive 15 per cent, of the gross takings—this being a tentative agreement —.although it was stated that this would probably be definite, members considered that the demands were exorbitant. and one member commented that “it was pretty hot.” CAPTAIN AND VICE-CAPTAIN. The selectors submitted the combined Poverty Bay-East Coast team (as published!. The chairman said that the selectors suggested that W. .Langlands should be captain and Matthews vieo-eaptain. “Why Bennett last week and Ringlands this meek?” inquired Air. Alo Donald. Air. O’Neill explained that Air. Neill, chairman of the East Coast Union, had made that suggestion, but he thought that it should b© loft to the team to make the appointment. Air. Woods proposed that the selectors’ recommendation should be adopted.

“I am not in favor of Alattliews being vice-captain,” said Air. Edmondson,” because he left at 5 o’clock at one practice, when the rest of tile field was to assemble at 5.30 p.m., and he did not return. On the motion of Air. O’Neill, it was decided to leave the appointment of captain and vice-captain to the' team on Thursday evening. RESERVED SEATS.

The question of reserved seats on the stand was fully discussed, and it was decided to reserve the whole stand, the charges to be 2s and with no extra charge for booking. An appeal was made for about. 100 seats to be set aside and not open for reserves, but this was unsuccessful, members considering that it would he much bettor to reserve the whole stand. Finally, on the motion of Air Plank, it was decided to leave 100 seats unreserved until 11 o’clock on Saturday It was decided to stage a Black and White Shield match between Alotu reps, 'and the Poverty Bay junior reps, as a curtain-raiser. It’ was stated that the train for Alotuhora is being delayed for the benefit of country patrons. The match is to commence at 2.45 p.m. .ENTERTAINMENTS FOR VISI-

. TORS. The New South Wales team will arrive overland from Napier on Friday afternoon, when they will be_ met by members of the Rugby Union, and that evening will he .guests at the Hospital Ball in the Garrison Hall. On Saturday morning the visitors will be tendered a civic reception at the Borough Council Chambers at 10 30 o’clock, and in the evening after the match the Now South Wales visitors and the combined team will be entertained at an official dinner at the Coronation Hotel, at which the Mayor will preside! Later that evening the visitors will he the guests of the Boxing Association at the tournament in the Opera House. The manager of the New South Welshmen, Mr. Harold Baker, will referee the professional fight between Jack Ileeney and Dick Him our. On Sunday the visitors will bo given a car-ride round the district. Air. F. D. Berry, of Hawke s Bay, will referee the match, and line umpires will be appointed by the Referees’ Association. Discussing the percentage of gate to,kings to be allocated to Poverty Bay, Mr. . McFarlane said that the East Const Union had financed the trip, and. regarded any money which they might .receive from the match as pure profit. .■ He said, that the' Coast Union was prepared to accept a ;40 per cent; and the Poverty Bay Union 60 per cent.;of the portion of the gate to. he apportioned to the trio Unions.
