COMPLAINT FROM THE SOUTH. ; (SPECIAL TO THE TIMES.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. In the House to-day, Mr J. Horn ( Wakatipu) mentioned the question of river erosion, and instanced one particular spot in liis electorate, where constant provision was being made to prevent the land being washed away and requests for assistance and compensation from the Crown had failed. Did they have to stand by and watch their hind carried away with every swell? he asked the Minister for Lands. The river erosion problem was a serious one, and the Government was, as far as possible, trying to load the leaseholders with tho responsibility. . , , , .The Minister said the land referred to 4 by Mr Horn was under the jurisdiction of the Education Department, and it would have to deal with tho application.
