RISE IN POTATOES.

MAIZE PRICES STILL CAUSING CONCERN.

The grain, seed and produce market Ims remained quiet during the week and little movement has been registered in prices. The maize market is causing the most talk among the local merchants and farmers and it is most difficult to prophesy what prices will be during the next few months. Merchants have been offering 5s -lid f.o.b.s.i. during the week for prompt shipment to Auckland but few farmers are willing to sell and consider the price will rise. . , , A sharp rise was registered in the southern potato market yesterday and quotes were received at 10s to £7 15s f.ob.s.i. Southern ports Supplies are plentiful in ton n «it present and the merchants report an increas'd business in seed lines during the week Plentiful supplies of chaff both local and Blenheim, are held by most of the local merchants though the demand locally is not as good this year, the increasing number of motor cars having a serious effect on the amount of chaff used. Bran, pollard and flour are reported to he in good supply and merchants are experiencing no difficulty in satisfying their customers’ requirements.
