SALVATION ARMY

AN ENJOYABLE CONCERT

At the Salvation Many Hall on Monday a. splendid programme was given by the scholars and teachers of the Young People’s Corps. There was a crowded hall to witness the piogramme, and about 70 children took part. The evening’s entertainment was under the direction of Adjutant Canty, assisted by the teachers. Ensign Quickfall assisted at the organ. The programme began with an animated song entitled “Childhood” by the whole company. Then followed a pretty action song by 12 girls with sunshades, the “Umbrella Song” and it was fine. The primary children rendered a pleasing action song “A Voyage of Life” Another united song entitled “Wake Up, N.Z.” was given by the full company. Then a descriptive soio, “The Flower G iirl” followed and in turn a dialogue entitled “Wanted, a General Servant” which was given by the seven teachers. This item received rounds of applause. Then followed a “Tradesmen’s Recitation” representing the shoemaker, the tailor, the butcher, the flour-miller, and the grocer—all in character. Then a song was given by 20 boys and ~t brought the house down. Recitations were given by Campbell Prentice, Nancy Houghton .and Adam Prentice and each did well. Another united song was “A Pity They Don't Get a Shaking Up.” Bible subjects were portrayed under special lighting arrangements and proved effective. “Rebekah at the Well,” “Ruth and Naomi”, “The Finding of Moses,” “The Captive Maid.” Adjutant Canty presided throughout and the Yeung People’s Corps will benefit considerably by the effort.
