VALUELESS CHEQUE
— - YOUTH OF 16 CHARGED.
REMANDED UNTIL FRIDAY
A youth aged 16$. named 1 James Charles White, was charged m the Police! ‘Court, before Mr It. C. Levvey, S.M. yesterday with obtaining money and goods valued at £9 by means of false pretences by a cheque for that amount drawn 1 on the Bank of Australasia , pui-ported to be signed by G. P. Dods. The Senior-Sergeant intimated that the accused bacl been employed by Mrs Dods, farmer, of Ormond. Ike youth had come into possession of a disused cheque book and had removed a blank form and filled it m for £9, and had presented it to Howard Donald Stewart, storekeeper, of Kaiteratahi, on July 17, in payment for goods. He was later arrested. _He would ask for a remand until Friday. The Magistrate accordingly remanded White to appear on August 1.
