TE HAPARA SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE,

The Te Hapara school committee met on Wednesday evening, when there were , present: Messrs. G. K. Parley (chairman), W. P. Parker, C. Priday, W. Priestly, J. W. Duckworth’, and Iv. Fredricks. The headmaster in liis report stated that the roll was . -520, with an average attendance of 89, per cent.; the had weather last week having caused a considerable drop in the percentage of attendance. He pointed out that, in wet weather, water lay in the playground, which could not be . eliminated until the stormwater drainage was comprehensively dealt with. The term examinations had been completed, and most of the reports hud been, forwarded to the parents. He considered the term holidays had come too soon, spoiling the work of the first term. Regarding staff changes ho reported, that Miss Pugh had left on Friday, May 30, having been transferred to Elsthorpe. Her place would ho hard to fill, and until a teacher could be found Mrs Cook was relieving. The willows, he stated, required topping and he requested that the committee deal with the matter. One hundred pines and blue-gums had been planted, hut 100 more would he necessary before the planting would he finished. Nurse Leo and Mr Morris, agricultural inspector, had visited the school during the month. Several hollows in the playground required filling up and the Mill road footpath required immediate attention hv the Borough authorities.—Adopted. Miss Pugh wrote resigning her position on the staff, on account of being transferred to Elsthorpe.—Accepted with regret. A letter was received from the Board, notifying that Airs Cook had been appointed relieving teacher until a permanent appointment was made.

A letter was received from the Football Association re soccer in the school.— It was decided to hand the letter over to the sports master with a recommendation that soccer he taken up by the school, if possible. It was resolved to leave the matter of tree-planting to the visiting committee with power .to act. The topping of the willow trees was left to Mr Priestly. Accounts amounting to £ll Ifis !Jd were passed for payment. The following visiting committee was elected: Messrs C. Friday, W. 'Priestly, and J. Duckworth.
