NEW GAMING BILL
WILL IT BE OPPOSED?
WELLINGTON. June 4. Among the Bills which will be brought down by the Government during the coming session will be a Gaming Bill. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. E. F. Bollard) states that the Bill would bo practically the same as that which was introduced last session, which was dropped as the result of strong opposition levelled against it by certain members ot the House. It will be rcca led that last rear’s amending Bill precipitated a discussion on the second reading V'hicli found the House still sitting at daylight one morning, its chiet opponents being Mr L. Mr Isitt and the Labor members. The principal jint of their contention was the W.r'or members’ endeavour to secure the insertion of a clause dealing with the limitation of jockeys’ weights and “sweating down.” On behalf of the Government, it is claimed that there is need for an amendment of existing gaming legislation, but it is not_ anticipated that this session’s measure Wild, be so strongly contested as the Till of last year.—P.A.
