The thanks of the Society are. also due to the local branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants for the use or its library by members of the Society. Tour committee desire to record their appreciation to the TTawkes Bay Accountant Students’ Society for the entertainment of the Gisborne representatives for the annual debate which was held in Napier on the 24th Aug., 1923. The subject chosen. “That the establishment of a State Bank would he in the interests of the Dorn iniion” was successfully debated by Messrs. Bunn, Brown and Elliott (negative) with our te r, in, which comprised Messrs. Fry, Albrecht, ami Herne (affirmative). -Mr J. Mason, of Napier, t.ind'y acted as judge. Although this is the first- year that an'nntm-Soeiety debate bus Loon held for the Challenge kindly derated In- Mr McCulloch, of Messrs. McCulloch, Butler and Spence, we trust that the younger members of the Society will see that a strong team is formed this coming session to hold the prestige of the

Society. It is with misapprehension that we learn of the possibility of the local branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants losing their ronresentaction on the Council of the Society. Wo sincerely trust that on account of the isolation of this district strong measures will he taken to try and ave-t this retrograde position. At the conclusion of the business the cabaret was commenced, consisting of dancing and musical and vocal items by Messrs. Risliworth, G. Cade, E. Williams, E. B. Bullivant, h\ Neill, W. McClure, H. Houlihan, and Misses M. Goldsmith, P. Cox, N. Parker. A newly-formed orchestra, consisting of ten juveniles, Olympic Orchestra, played the dance music and also rendered several items during the evening. Their playing was of a particularly high standard. A sumptuous supper was provided, during which several toasts were honored, including “The King,” ‘‘The N.Z. SocieM of Accountants,” “Kindred Societies,” “Lecturers,” and “The Ladies.”
