CARRIED UNDER GUARD.
AN ANGRY MOTHER FOILED. With a police guard to keen his angry ?not!n:r at bay, a young Bolton man had an exciting wedding at a registry office a lew weeks ago. He was afterwards allowed to escape from the building with his bride by a back door.

But the man’s mother did not approve. Tor the marriage at .the registry oflico tiie bridegroom asked for special police protection, and two sergeants kept watch. The mother was early on the scene, and expressed her opinion strongly. Wishing to avoid a scene, the officials suggested the newly-married couple leaving by the hack way, through disused rooms and staircases. They gained a hack street,
and hurried away from the maternal wrath.
The mother was very annoyed when she found they had escaped. She searched all the surrounding streets feverishly, expressing strong opinions all the-while, and even searched the police office. Finding the search fruitless, she hurst into tears and went home.
