EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS
EXCITEMENT AT TAURANGA
TAURANGA, May 5. Two light earthquake shocks were experienced here this morning. Colonel Ward, who has a recording instrument, records the first tremor at 4.29, and a much more definite series of oscillations occurring three minutes later showed movements along a line roughly joining yVanganui and Tauranga. The indications were almost as strong as the most forcible of the Taupe series two years ago, and the general direction leads to suspicions that the origin is in the same neighborhood.—P.A.
