THE WEATHER.
Present indications are for southerly winds, strong to gale, backing to easterlies northward ol' Farewell .Spit and Kaikoura and moderate to strong south-easterlies, changing to northerlies shortly elsewhere. The weather will be cold and changeable generally, with showers in the northern and East Coast districts. The conditions are likely "to improve soon. The barometer will rise in the north and a fall is due shortly in the south.
