FARM AND STATION.
TICK-INFESTED AREA. NO PERMIT- TO MOVE DOG. TE AIIOHA, July 24. Ignorance of the law was pleaded by Edward 'Ward, of Manawaru, m the To Aroha Police Court to-day when he., was charged with consigning a. dog from a tick-infested area to Taranaki without a permit. Mr J. IT. Salmon, S.M., said, his difficulty was •that the minimum fine was £5. As this was the first case heard in To Aroha and the Stock Department wished to dr.fw attention to the regulations, he uould dismiss the ease, subject to the payment of the costs, 13s.
In reference to the judgment given at Wanganui by .Mr Barton, S.M., for the Crown against the Wanganui Freezing Company, a claim for the value of sheep sold by a returned soldier, who obtained payment therefore from the company without disclosing that tho stock were under mortgage to the Crown, the Magistrate held that sections 25 and 2G of the Chattels Transfer Act. which provide that a stock mortgage must contain the brand and earmark, do not apply to cases where the Crown is mortgagee. The decision is important to-freezing companies and stock buyers generally.—R.A.
