FIRES.
GOOD SAVE AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND. July 26. A fire broke out at 10.30 o’clock last night among packing cases on the ground floor of a three-storev brick building in Albert Street, owned by do Arsley’s Ltd., boot manufhoturers. The flames were confined to the ground floor, which was <.f:zz~izd by Hope, Gibbons, Ltd., motor merchants, but little damage was done to the building or stock.—-I 5 .A.
OUTBREAK IN WELLINGTON. £.xrn DA A! AGE TO HOTEL CECIL. WELLINGTON, July 26. Shortly after midnight a fire broke out in the Hotel Cecil, opposite'Lambton railway station. .It appears; to 1 mvo started in the kitchen or pantry, and immediately spread to the dining room, which was a mass of flames when tho brigade arrived. After a struggle the fire was confined to this portion of the building, the dining room being destroyed and those adjoining much damaged. Underneath were bedrooms, which suffered from water. There was no confusion among the guests, hut two firemen had' narrow escapes from injury.. The damage is roughly estimated at “V \'o The whole building and contents is insured in the Norwich Union Office.
