At the Supremo Court, Mr Justice Herdiunn sentenced a youth, Ernest James Hnnnant, for theft of cheques and money, total £3OO, including: £35 cash, to three years’ probation, expressing: ivgrei that the law did not allow him to order birching by the police. Henry Howard McCarthy, for failing to account lor money o! the Tauranga Hospital Board, and theft and forgery, was sentenced to two years’ reformat ire detention. D’Arev Robert Me Davitt was sentenced to three years’ hard labor, and George Henry Newton to two years' probation for breaking and entering and theft at Taumannuli. Walter Frank Goodall, for forgery at Feild- • ng, was sentenced to 18 months-’ gaol ,i,t the termination of his present sentence. Albert Sait, for indecent assault on it young female, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. Frederick Thomas Kelly May, lor breaking, entering, tlielt, forgery, and uttering, already sentenced to IS months’ imprisonment for breaking his probation, was let eft without iurr.hor penalty.— P.A.
