REGISTRATION OF ALIENS. LEGISLATION SUSPENDED. WELLINGTON,. July 24. In a Bill, circulated to-night, it is proposed to suspend the operations o* ,iie Registration of Aliens’ Act of 1917. ' Under the existing legislation every alien had to make an application for registration, ‘furnishing fairly voluminous particulars of Ins occupation and intentions regarding residence and to'notify any change of address to the police. 1 lie Bn! proposes that the law shall be suspended. unless its operation is revived by proclamation. THE FISHERIES’ ACT. AN AMENDMENT BILL.

} A Bill was introduced m the House ; to-day enacting certain provisions for 1 the further protection of oyster beds in the North. There is provision also that officers under part 2 of the principal Act may be appointed not only for a particular district, blit for the" whole of New Zealand. In the principal Act there is provision to prevent the discharge of saw oust or any sawmill refuse into rivers.
