PUBLICATION OF NOTES
POSITION IN THE PACIFIC
(Received April 17, 12.5 a.m.) WASHINGTON, April 15. President Hughes published the texts of notes interchanged between the United States and Japan, whereby the countries mutually agreed .to a cancellation of the Lansing-Ishii agreement. The notes point out that in the light of the understanding arrived at at the Washington Conference, the former agreement is no longer in force. Cancellation, however, leaves'intact the Root-Takahiia understanding of 19d6, wherein Japan and the United States declared a purpose to maintain the status quo m the Pacific, to assert equal rights to all powers in China, and support the independence and integrity of that Power.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
