Tom Newman, the champion of English billiards, made a break of 1024 at Burroughes Hall, Piccadilly, London, in his match with Lawrence. This is his record break. The previous best all-round break with ivory balls was 994 by Stevenson; who has also scored 1016 with bonzoline balls; but George Gray, the Australian, made 1135, chiefly by means of red losers. The biggest break of any kind on record is 499,135 by Tom Reece in 1907, and included 248,552 of the famous “cradle” cannons now barred.
