WHITE ISLAND WATER.
WANTED FOR RESEARCH WORK
A REQUEST FROM WELLINGTON
Some interest has been aroused in scientific circles with regard to the acid water which exists on White Island (says the Whakatane Press). It is evidently the only water in New Zealand containing the properties required, as a request has come from the other end of the Island for some of this acid water. A local resident has received a let-' ter from the Director of the School of Mines. The following is an extract; “I have been asked to try and secure a sample of the acid water on White Island dor Professor Robertson, of Victoria College, Wellington. He wants to do some research work on isotopes, and is making a start with chlorine. The idea is that the atomic weight of the White Island water may be slightly different from, say, that of chlorine in salt.” The letter also requests that a fairly large sample should be obtained when the next party goes to White Island.
