The Hon. Mr Let*. Minister in charge of the administration' of Western. Samoa, lias arrived here. lie stated that nine-lentlis of the criticism of New Zealand’s administration in Samoa was clue to prohiition. A _ deputation of white residents at Apia had assured him that New Zealand’s drastic liquor laws were the cause of all the discontent. and prejudice against the New Zealand Government, and if they were eased down the bulk of the criticism would dio„ Mr Lee added that lie was quite satisfied with the progress made. Lee Fong, formerly Chinese ConsulGeneral at Samoa, has also arrived. Discussing the labor problem there, Fong said that if cheap labour were •unobtainable many plantations would have to close, as at present there were not sufficient men • available to work them.—TJ.P-A.
