APPALLING DEATH ROLL
WORST CATASTROPHE FOR FIFTY YEARS. (Received December 20, 9.35 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 20. Terrific earthquake shocks destroyed many towns along the Argentine slopes of' the Andes mountains. Over one hundred and . fifty bodies have been recovered- so far, but th-c death roll is expected to be appallingly high.
One hundred perished at Trespcrtenas, 30 at Costa de Araujo. - Not ,a house is left standing in La Valle and La Central. Particularly strong shocks were felt again on Saturday. The towns of San Martin amt Ibv adavia and the city of' Mendoza were badly shaken, but are undamaged. This is the worst catastrophe since IS69.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
