HOHENZOLLERN TRAGEDY
PRINCE JOACHIM’S TRAGIC DEATH. PATHETIC FAREWELL TO LITTLE SON. BERLIN. July 19. Prince Joachim’s last hours were pathetic. He retired at nine o’clock, placing a revolver on the table beside his bed. An hour later he got up, and went to an adjoining bed*room, where his little son was sleeping. He aroused him and talked a few ’minutes, though lie said nothing that would make the child think it a final farewell. Then he returned to his bedroom, where he was found dying in the morning. No one heard the shot, which was apparently fired at midnight.—A. and N.Z.C'.A. BERLIN. July 20. Prince Joachim suffered from a complete nervous breakdown and had collapsed mentally. He was obsessed by fears regarding the outcome of the revolution and believed the*' Government intended to turn him out of liis house. His eccentricities completely broke np his conjugal wife. Tlie present whereabouts of his wife are unknown. Pending divorce proceedings deepened Prince Joachim’s depression.—Reuter. . LONDON. July 20.
The Daily Mail’s. Berlin correspondent says that Joachim was a weak and characterless debauchic. His manner of life alienated his wife and dissipated his fortune. The last of the long, fatal excesses brought a breakdown.
Tlie Kaiser when informed was plunged into deep gloom. Tlie news was withheld from the Kaiserin whose health is precarious.—United Service.
