WANGANUI, July 20. Tlie boxing contest between Holland and Clabby, which was to have taken place 'here on Friday night has been abandoned.

The match originally arranged was between Uren and Holland, the purse being '£soo, but as Uren was suffering from mumps, Clabby was wired and asked if he would fight Holland for £4OO. Clabby wired his acceptance and left Gisborne for Wanganui on Saturday. This morning Clabby, who arrived last night, declared he had not been aware that Uren and Holland were to fight for a £SOO purse, and as a matter of principle declined to fight for a lesser sum. Both sides being adamant, the contest was abandoned. —P.A.

Several matters of very great interest to supporters of the sport were considered at Monday evening’s meeting of tlie Boxing Association.

The return match between Les Gleeson and Jack Heeney was fixed for Friday, August 27. The maximum weight was fixed at list. Sib, and if either exceeds that weight a forfeit of £25 is to be imposed. For the October carnival the secretary was instructed to endeavor to arrange matches between Clabby and Lloyd, and Pooley and Tom Heeney. A deputation was received from Te Karaka requesting that permission be given for the formation of a sub-associa-tion there, to be affiliated with Gisborne. It was decided that if an application were submitted in writing it would be submitted to the New Zealand Boxing Council for consideration. Les Gleeson enquired wliat subsidy he would be granted if he-started rooms for boxing and for physical culture. — It was decided to hold pver the matter till next meeting. In the meantime enquiry is to be made from the High Board ns to what, assistance would be given the association if it secured the services of a capable instructor. It was intimated that .T. Smith, who had been chosen to represent. Poverty Bay as. its middle-weight “rep” at the New Zealand championships would not be available for tlie trip to Hastings.
