Y.AV.C.A. TO BE APPROACHED

SITES ALREADY UNDER CONSIDERATION.

A meeting to consider further, the proposed hostel for girls was held in the Farmers* Union rooms on Saturday, Mr C. H. Bridge presiding over an attendance of about 25. Apologies for absence were received from the Mayor (Mr G. Wildish), Archdeacon Williams, the Rev. W. H. E. Abbey, and Messrs W. D. Lysnar, M.P., F. J. Lysnar, and D. J. Parker. The chairman said that the attendance and the great interest which was being taken, augured well for the success of the project. Mr G. W. Humphreys moved: I hat this district wishes to associate itself with the Y.W.C.A. for the purpose of opening a hostel for girls. A quantity of literature in connection with the wor—ing of the Auckland Y'.AV.C.A. was received from the secretary of that, institution. wh» stated that a secretary could be provided to assist in the first organisation. Mr J. C. Field said that the movement was simply a matter of finance. Some move should be made, he thought, to provide a hostel for girls who would be coming to New Zealand. First of all, however, just what was wanted would have to be decided. Mr E T. Doddrell said that one of the principal difficulties in securing assistants was the inadequate accommodation in Gisborne. At the present time verv great difficulty was experienced m getting board for employees, and the project should, he- thought, have the full support of every business hrm. There need not be much tear or tlie financial liability. . ~ Mr T. E. Toneycliffe endorsed Mr Douurell’s remarks regarding the dearth of accommodation in Gisborne. A Y.W.C.A. would also provide an educational feature for the girls.
