The Senate passed the first reading of the Passports Bill, which provides that no person over the age of sixteen shall be permitted to leave the Commonwealth without a passport properly vised and endorsed under penalty ot £SOO or six mouths’ imprisonment. Ihe system does not apply W L' l ’. e "' s of f ‘Y < ’ r ' seas vessels or persons visiting, settling, or returning to New Zealand, provides, tliov possess a permit issued by the proper authorities and travel on vessels trading solely between Australia and New Zealand. The Bill also exempts aboriginals and natives of Asia, the East Indies and the islands of the Indian and pacific Oceans.—United Press Assn.
