CONTRACTS LET FOR FIVE BIG VESSELS FOR AUSTRALIA. OIL FUEL ON ALL PASSENGER STEAMERS. (Received Dec. 3, 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 29. A P. and 0. report states that the company has contracted with the big shipbuilding firm of Messrs Harland and Wolff to supply five steamers suitable for the Australian emigrant and cargo service, via the Cape. .• The vessels will be of 13,800 tons, and will be called the Ballarat, Baradine, Bulranald, Barabol and Bendigo. The P. and O. have also contracted with Armstrong’s for a mail steamer of 15,800 tons. The passenger steamers will burn oil ..to facilitate loading.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
