ENGINEER'S REPORT,

In Ins report to the Borough Council on Tuesday evening the engineer dealt with the following matters:— During the past, formght the usual sanitary inspection of premises witmn the congested portion of the Borough has been carried out. The general sanitary conditions were found- to be fairlv satisfactory. General waterworks repairs had been done m and out of the Borough. Everything is in good order in the top line, and working satisfactorily. The amount of uater through the Venturi meter for week ending November 17 was 7,100.000 gallons and for week ending November 24 was G. 110,000 gallons. We are practically taking all the water/at the intake and also at Smith's Creek We are having much better pressures since the unattended hoses and sprinklers have been stopped. . , _ , The following reports bad been asked for by the Council— Fire places, on Ivaiti and -*-o' vvn Beaches.—The estimated cost of these in brick and cement is £4 for one and less if a number are ordered. there are no funds available. Mangapapa Trams—This matter has been discussed with the Mayor. The Councils tramway line will stop at the Borough boundary m such a pnsition> and at such a level, that the Town Board can extend it if inutua.ly arranged at any time to do so. 1 ha' p too many works in hand at the ) resent time to see my way to extend tm. survey outside the Borough. Water Supply for Mangapapa—l he existing water supply, including the Afaimapoike supplementary pumping plant, is only sufficient for the present Borough requirements, and until this supply is augmented, either by large storage reservoirs or larger gravitation mains, it would be unwise to consider extending the reticulation outside the Borough. Whatnunnko Tramways.—The survpvs .and plans for this work are well tid vnnccd. Government National Provident Fund. —This proposal has been laid before all the employees and only one or two are in favor of ioiuing the fund. The report was adopted.
