CR. BOLAND RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN.

(Prom Our Special Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Uawa County Council was held on Wednesday, November 2G. The chair was taken by the Clerk. Nominations were called for the position of chairman for the ensuing year. Cr. Hawkins moved that Mr Boland be elected to the chair. Mr Hawkins said Cr. Boland, through his wide knowledge ot local body work, had led the Council well through the first term of its existence when the work required one who understood the workings of a. Council, to lead it, and he felt that it was in the highest interest of all concerned that Cr. Boland be again elected. Cr. McNeil seconded the nomination, there being no further nominations, Cr. Boland was declared to be elected. On taking the chair, Cr. Boland returned thanks to all present for seeing fit to place him in that position, and stated that every effort would be put forward for the satisfactorily carrying out of the office. It. was resolved, after consideration, that no alteration be made in salaries at present; also that a small building be erected on. the Council’s section in Parkinson Street for the use of Hie clerk, until he was able to make arrangements for his accommodation, tlie building to be erected in such a manner that it could be used by the Council when not required as a residence for the clerk. The ground plan of requirements for office buildings that bad been prepared by the engineer, was before the meeting, also the ground plan of the engineer’s residence. These were considered at length, after which Cr. Hawkins moved, and the chairman seconded, and it was resolved that same be forwarded to Messrs Burr and Mirfield, with a view to having full plans and specifications prepared and on estimate obtained. It. was resolved that application be made for telephone connection to the present engineer’s residence.
