The Conciliation Commissioner is still active in his efforts to bring about a settlement, and a slight improvement is reported in the prospects of eventually achieving a compromise. The most recent development is a proposal by the Butchers’ Union to open a retail shop in the city, manned by its members, and directed as to tlie business arrangements by its executive. The Westfield stock sales are suspended pending a settlement of the dispute.
