FATAL FIRE.
INQUEST ON TWO VICTIMS. CORONER ADJOURNS PROCEEDINGS. Press Association Telegram. DUNEDIN, July 28. An inquest was opened this afternoon on the bodies of Duncan. MeDonnell And Samuel Doherty, victims 'of the fire in Cargill Street on Sunday morning. , ... The evidence showed there were eleven- boarders, mostly seamen, in the house besides eight members or the household. The fire was discovered in a ijppm occupied by Doherty and then bad a good hold. The house was not licensed as a boardinghouse. Medical evidence showed that both men were badly burned. In the hospital on Sunday morning Doherty admitted that he was three parts drunk when the alarm was given. A man named dark found' Doherty lying on the bed with all his clothes on and woke him up . .On arrival at the house the superintendent of the brigade was informed that ‘everybody was-out except the proprietress, who was in the kitchen, but on going upstairs subsequently lie found Doherty. MacDonell s body was . found shortly afterwards.
