VISIT OF GOVERNOR.

LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS

A meeting of representatives of local bodies and otherfe interested in the visit of the Governor-General was held in the Borough Council Chambers yesterday" afternoon; the Mayor (Mr G. Wildish) presiding. In opening the proceedings, .the Mayor said that the Governor-Gen-eral Avas paying his final visit to ports of the Dominion, and the meeting was called to consider arrangements for the suitable reception of his Excellency and party. The suggested programme was as follows: 9.30 a.m. —Launch to reach the Tutanekai to bring the ice-Regal ' party ashore. After arrival, the Sarty to be taken to the Gisborne [otel. 11 a.m. —Civic Reception to be held at Trafalgar Rotunda. 1.30 p.m. —Public luncheon. The afternoon to be spent in a motor trip round the district, calling at the residence of the County Chairman (Mr. C- G. Matthews)-for afternoon tea. 8 p.m. —Private dinner at the Gisborne Hotel. The Mayor went on to state that since the ‘ programme had been arranged, the offer of the Sat ago Club to entertain His Excellency during the evening had been communicatedto the private secretary of the Gov-ernor-General for approval by His Excellency. On the motion of Mr. H. Do Losta, the programme as submitted by the Mayor was approved. After some discussion, it was decided that the Ladies’ Club should entertain the lady members of the party during -the evening. On the motion of Mr C. A. Fenwick, it was decided that the chairmen of the local bodies, with the president of the Chamber of Commerce, j should form the Reception Commit- : tee. Mr E. T. Doddrell stated that m reference to the closing of the shops, the Association had decided that they would close their shops for one hour, and. if necessary, two hours, during the retention. The Mayor suggested that the shop- . keepers should fix two hours. Mr Doddrell said the Association would agree to do so. The Mayor stated that both local bands would be .present at the reception. and the High School cadets would form a guard of honor. Ihe school children should also be askecl to sing the National Anthem. On the motion of Mr Preston, it was decided that the speakers at the Reception should be the Major, on behalf of the local bodies, with one representative of the clergy and educational institutions, and one to represent the military and the rtturned soldiers.
