MATAWHERO STOCK SALE

The Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association held, their weekly stock sale at the Matawhero yards yesterday. There was a fair attendance but the entries of stock were very much below the average. The entries of fat sheep totalled 243. Ewes made up to 23s 6d and hoggets 235 9d. Only 18 fat cattle were penned and very few were sold at auction. Cows made £ll and a light heifer £7 ss. Of three pigs entered two porkers were sold at 295. The yarding of store sheep totalled 2577. A line of 174 good 2-tooth wethers made 275-, and 75 mixed woolly hoggets sold at 23s Id. Fourteen head of store cattle were 1 penned hut for the quality there was little demand. Nineteen head of dairy cattle met with a fair sale, one cow springing to- the third calf fetching £l6. WELLINGTON, July 24. The High Commissioner’s market report, dated London July 20, states: — Butter and Cheese:—-The wholesale, prices of English Cheddar choose lucre been fixed at the following rates : —Manufactured during _ July, 1.77/4; manufactured after beginning of August, 186/8. The butter conference closed without any defin.vte conclusions being reached. It was decided to make a proposal that a 50 per cent, share of the profits on export butter shall be divided between the suppliers- of the local market and exporters. The Imperial Supplies Department will receive the whole 50 per cent share from the Imperial Government and will undertake the distribution of the _ money among those 'entitled to receive it. A proposal will he put before all concerned shortly. The Dominions’ ‘■ommittee is now making the necessary arrangements.
