VALEDICTORY.

GATHERING AT GISBORNE CLUB-

A large and representative gathering met at the Gisborne Club last, night tp bid farewell to Mr W. S. McCredie, who is leaving Gisborne this morning by the Arahura to take up a position, in the legal offices of Mr A. Hanna, Auckland. The gathering consisted not only of members of the club, but also comprised a number of representatives of the local legal profession. The chair was occupied by Mr F. W. Nolan president of the Gisborne Club, who in proposing the health of the departing guest eulogised his efforts--on behalf of the dub during past years. He emphasised the fact that Mr McCredie at one time occupied the position of chairman, and- to his efforts to a great extent was due the present prosperity of the institution. Other speakers also referred, to the efforts of Mr McCredie in pushing on 6port in the district, he having been prominently connected ryith Rugby football and cricket during the many years he had resided in Gisborne. Special reference was also'made by several speakers to Mr. McCredie s connection with the business life of the town, he having been at all times one of the most energetic business men in Gisborne. At the conclusion of the gathering Mr McCredie responded and thanked, those present for the many happy remarks that had been passed. He hoped that the members of the Gisborne Club would long be spared and that they would keep the flag flying until those members who were absent on active service returned 1 to appreciate the fact that the Gisborne Club was still in existence and a power for good in Gisborne. On behalf of the legal profession Mr. A. W. Rees added his meed of praise to the departing guest. It is understood that further recognition by those citizens who are not members of the Gisborne Club will be accorded to “Billy” McCredie in the near future.
