P.B. TURF CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club was held yesterday. The president, Mr. J. W. Nolan, occupied the chair was a fair attendance. The committee, in presenting their annual report, stated: The Committee wish to congratulate members on the satisfactory position attained arid also the success of the two meetings held during the racing year, consisting of three days instead of four as formerly, the club having lost one day. The sum of £IOOO has been invested in this year’s War Loan, making the total bank overdraft as shown in the balance-sheet £1545 14s 9d, as against £1317 15s 3d last year. The stakes paid for the three days’ racing totalled £3725 and the totalisator, dividend and amusement taxes' paid amounted to £2627 11s Id. The total subscribed to patriotic funds to date amounts to £906 10. The three members of the committee who retire by rotation, but are eligible for re-election, are Messrs. W. G. Sherratt, A. H. Wallis and R. G. Hallamore. The thanks of the ■ committee to Mr. F. W. Nolan for big services as hon. treasurer.
The profit and loss account showed receipts for the year ending May 31, 1918, amounting to £1651.17s lid, including subscriptions £299 55,, spring meeting £724 4s lid, summer meeting £538 Bs, and rent £75. The Chairman, in moving the adoption. of the report and balancesheet. said he. had to congratulate the club’ on the year’s work. They were showing a profit of £413 6s 6d, in addition to which they had written off £4OO as depreciation, so that the actual profit for the year was over £BOO. This was very satisfactory. seeing that the stakes had been increased and they had had a day less racing. Mr Reynolds seconded _ the motion, which was carried, unanimously. The following officers were elected: President, Mr, J. W. Nolan; vicepresident. Mr’J. Clark; committee, Messrs. W. L. Rutledge, R. Sherratt, W. G. Sherratt, J. Maynard, R. Hine. At the suggestion of Mr. D. J. Harry, it was decided to refer the matter of adjusting the stakes for the race for two and three-year-olds to the Programme Committee. Mr. Barry suggested that the amount awarded to the first horse should be reduced from £l5O to £l4O, thus leaving the winner still eligible for hack events. ' The second horse could receive £4O and the third horse £2O.
