THE ARMY OF SINGLE FARMERS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Permit me to enlighten the advertiser in a recent issue, styling himself “The Bon Ton Land Agency.” To he fair to him, perhaps, the great fact that 1500 single farmers have passed fit and have been labelled “Sine Die” hurts. . But he must remember that there is such a thino- as national economics, and one important factor connected herewith is production. Despite the fact that there is a big war on, and every man is wanted to kill a German, and shipping is in great measure a thing of the past, we have any amount or bricks and mortar to build sheds m order to store all products such as cheese, butter, and wool. So we hav e every opportunity to go on prodluc''ing. To spell land is beneficial, and, if necessary, ten men could conduct grazing operations over 50,000 acres, thereby letting our army of 1500 single farmers away to help nghx the Germans. It is considerably more important to grow wool than beef, owing to the fact of profit. Ir your advertiser were a student. °t economics, he would realise liow important profit ;is in this war. Although our name is go-rd with any of the Allies—and we do not trade with the enemy—we still have a few •countries we wish to buy from, so must make money to exchange for their goods. I also, think there is a certain amount of jealousy. If ynur advertiser were a farmer, he would not have put in. such a sarcastic advertisement. tilting at the last man on the farm, and suggesting that we are on velvet. We deeply-regret that we cannot get away to the trenches/—I am, yours, etc HEDDY FARMER.
