An English war correspondent, speaking of General Plumer, the commander of the British force in Italy, writes:—“Like Lord Roberts, ho is one of' the ‘little ’uns,’ his height Icing given as sft sin. He is a«niodel of .neatness, and ‘the dandy general’ is .the affectionate appellation bestowed.by his men. With him might have originated the army creed that cleanliness is next to tidiness of kit. He ranks with Bird wood, and Byng in the estimation of the colonial forces, with whom in the past ho lias had dealings. and a great soldier’s testimony is this: ‘Plumer’s influence over those who have come in .contact with him is the influence :of an English gentleman.”
