BOROUGH ASKED TO PAY £3O
The secretary to the Waikaremoana Electrical League wrote to the Borough Council last evening stating that the amount payable by the Gisborne Borough Council towards the cost of the recent trip to Lake Waikafemoaua and other expenses incurred by the League had been assessed' at £3O. The total expenses amounted to £535 3s 6d. Cr Miller said he thought the expenditure very high. The Mayor stated that according to a resolution passed the Council’s expenditure was not to exceed £lO. He would move that a copy of the minute be sent to tlie League’s executive with a cheque for £lO. , Cr Mouat urged tiiat tlie £3O be paid. He pointed out that the League had done very valuable work in preventing an attempt to direct attention to the Manganui scheme in preference to the Waikaremoana. They were much indebted to the Napier people and he believed the Waikaremoana scheme was fading to receive much wider attention that at present. The motion was carried.
