PUBLIC SERVICE.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE (Press Association ’Telegram.) WELLINGTON, June IS. The annual conference of the New Zealand Public Service Association commenced to-day. Mr 'Allport, the addressing the delegates, said that the members had increased during the year .by 333, making a total of 5490. Or those. 817 had left with the i Expeditionary Forces. While they were away they would he relieved of payment of their contributions, which, in his opinion, was a ver v proper course, and it was essential that they should consider the question <if appointing a general secretary. Mr F. W. Millar, general secretary, had done invaluable service but was unable to devote the whole of his time to the work. Their relations with the Public Service Commissioner were most amicable. They had a free and full opportunity of seeing him whenever they desired, and the Commissioner was always ready, to hear their representations and give them consideration. Among the matters to be dealt with was the position of members of the- police force, joining the Association and the establishment of a co-operative store.
