WI PERE MEMORIAL.
QUESTION OF A SITE. Captain Pitt. hou. secretary to the Wi Pere Memorial Committee, wrote to the Borough Council last night applying for a suitable site from the Council on which to erect the memorial stone. The committee suggested a site on the hank of the Taruheru River, in line with Lowe Street, and failing that between the Band Rotunda and the Kaiti Bridge on the bank of the Turanganui River. The memorial stone, it was stated, would be particularly handsome and would be in keeping with the efforts of the Council in beautifying the town. Or Munns moved that the letter be referred to the Wo ks committee. The Mayor move 1 as an amendment that the matter be discussed in committee before the general business ivas taken. . The motion was withdrawn and the .amendment was carried. Later the matter was discussed in committee and it was decided to grant permission to erect the memo - fal on one of the Council’s reserves.
