IMPROVEMENTS TO GLADSTONE ROAD.
The matter of permanent road works to be undertaken with the quarry line money referred back for further consideration, was discussed, when it was decided to advise that the recommendation of the engineer “That a piece of concrete road be made on the northern side of Gladstone Road, extending from Bright Street to above Carnarvon Street,” be adopted. This paragraph, which appeared m a report presented to the Borough Council last evening led to a good deal of discussion. Cr Oman put up a strong fight in favour of Childers Road and was supported m some measure by Cr Mouat, who though • that a portion of the Gentle Annie Quarry money should be spent in concreting Childers Road 24 feet wide and the balance in laying down a macadamised road m Gladstone Road Cr Oman declined to accept Cr Mouat’s suggestion and said he would make his motion that tlie whole of tho money be spent on Childers Road- . , , ■ The engineer said the foundations were not suitable for tarred macadam arid were favourable to concrete The Town Clerk had written asking the Motuhora Company to send °down spevs. That was wrongEverything should he done m pi finer sequence.
