BOROUGH COUNCIL TO MAKE INQUIRIES.

The recent deputations to the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald on the subject of tlie price of bread were referred to at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council. Mr. J., W. Collins, secretary to the Board of Trade, telegraphed that-the Board proposed to advertise that the price of bread in Gisborne shall nor exceed lid per, 4lb loaf and s£d per 21b loaf as froth Satuiday, the 18th inst.

The Mayor explained that these charges were over the counter. Cr. Miller said that it seemed to him that the last one in with the deputation to the Minister got the best of the bargain. Cr. Mouat said that flour worth £lO 10s per ton in Auckland could be sold at 3d per 21b loaf in Gisborne with a rise or decline of id per loaf on every rise or decline in the price of flour to the extent of 255. The Mayor proposed and Cr. Wildish seconded that a committee be set up to wait upon the Board of Trade. Cr. Munns referred to the statement made to the Minister that it cost lid to deliver a loaf of bread as unreasonable. If they were going to appoint a committee they wanted evidence to controvert such statements. , , Cr.
