COAL FOR SWITZERLAND.
AN INTERESTING DUEL. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association PARIS. May 20. It is officially announced that France has offered Switzerland 550.000 tons of coal monthly, at 150 francs a ton, as against the German demand for 180 francs. The Swiss Government originally welcomed the offer, but ultimately, under German pressure, refused it and made arrangements with Germany. Notwithstanding this, France still keeps the offer 'open in order to avoid rectories closing resulting in misery for wci kpeople. France denies Germany assertion that she is threatening an economic- war on Switzerland.
