IMPROVEMENTS TO THE BEACH.
OFFER BY THE MAYOR. T .,4? ok tract from the General Comf Report presented at the Borough Council,, meeting last evening read:— y . Ike question of . improvements or reserves was considered and it was resolved to recommend, that if Council had any mone v available that it be expended first in improving the AYaibanae, Beach Reserve, this being one of the tomi s most valuable breathing spaces. The Mayor intimated that money was short and lie thought 'the public might be asked to subscribe tow'ards the suggested - improvements. Or Oman* mentioned that there was a lack of proper conveniences at the • mf s bathing shed on the beach. lh e Mayor offered to give £SO out of next year’s honorarium if £IOO could he raised from the: public for beautifying and improvement of the beach.. Cr Munns moved that the Council call a meeting of the ladies’ and gentlemen’s associations to formulate some definite scheme for the im•provement of the beach. There' was some, £SO or £6O in hand now and they wanted to get the advantage of that money. Cr. Oman: Is not that for men’s bathing sheds? Cr Munns: Let them spend it on bathing sheds then. It was decided to call a public meeting to consider the whole question.
