ESTIMATES FOR. 191 S-19. On Tuesday night estimates of receipts and expenditure of the Borough Council were placed before councillors and adopted. “The annual estimates were duly considered and adopted as per details attached, and_ it was decided that the electrical engineer’s salary be increased by £25 per annum, and E. Sharpies to receive 10s a week extra by Avay of war bonus. Applications from two of the* staff for increases were held over pending receipt of information as to what is paid in other boroughs of similar size. The engineer was asked to draw up or report on expending the quarry line money on roads setting out each street to receive attention together with description of work to be undertaken and amount allocated for same. “The carrying 5 47-64ths of a Id out of the estimates as passed will involve a total rating of Id in the £ being, general rate 2ld and special whole district rates 3 15-64t4hs of Id in the £, in addition to which there are small special area rates to be collected on Gisborne of l-32nd of Id. It will he noticed that the general rate is the same as last year, whilst the special whole district rates show a decrease of 43-64ths of Id, and Derby street bridge rates 5-64ths less, the Kaiti special rate 'not being collected this year owing to the balance in hand being sufficient to meet interest.
