TAXI-DRIVER’S BUSINESS

The usual statements have been filed at the office of the Deputy Official Assignee in bankruptcy, Alajor A. G. Beere, in the bankrupt estate of Cyril Newsam -Cooper, of Gisborne, taxi-driver. The first meeting of creditors will be held on the 23rd of April, at 2.30 o’clock. The following are particulars:— The financial position was stated as follows: Unsecured creditors, £1422 16s 7d; secured creditors. £101S; less estimated value of securities, £1475; surplus to contra, £457 ; total debts, £2440 16s 7d. - The assets set down were: Property, £1018; surplus in hands of secured creditors, £457; total assets, £1475; deficiencv, £965 16s 7d.

Unsecured creditors were: Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Gisborne, merchants, £1264 19s 3d; N.Z.L. and ALA. Co., Ltd., Gisborne, merchants, £ll 7s 4d; Common, Shelton and Co., Gisborne, merchants, £l4; E. D. McNicol, Matawhero, drover, £7O; V. S. Bolton. Makaraka, stock dealer, £ls; A. S. Ashdown, stable keeper, £l2; F. Stafford, Gisborne, farmer, £l2; F. R. Ball. Gisborne, land agent, £2O; S. Secured creditors: TV. A. Burnett, Wanganui, solicitor, estimated value of security, £425, amount of debt, £350. Total value of securities, £1475; total amount of debt, £1018; surplu ; £457. Bankrupt in his written statement said: “At present I am a taxi-driver, and have been in that occupation for the last three months.. Previous to that I had been farming and stock dealing, and had been doing well until February last year. AJy merchants had been carrying me on, but a heavy drop in the price of e\\ es seriously crippled me and I became unable to meet demands. I have been sued for the amount of my indebtedness amounting to over £I2OO, and it is quite impossible for me to arrange for payment.”
